How Was It Done?

This piece of furniture came to us with signs of use, mainly around the knobs, as well as woodworm damage. The structure itself was in good condition. This was our restoration process:
We cleaned the piece with a cloth and a little soap.
To remove the soap, we wiped it down with a little water using a well-wrung cloth.
We carried out a woodworm treatment and filled the holes with wood filler.
We lightly sanded the piece, mainly to remove some of the varnish.
We applied several coats of wood stain.
We then applied an antique white satin-finish paint.
We lightly sanded the mouldings and edges to create a distressed, aged effect.
Finally, we applied a coat of matt-finish varnish.
